Italian Association of Calorimetry and
Thermal Analysis
Since 1979, the AICAT has been dealing with topics concerning the application of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis to several fields, including:
- Solutions
- Polymers
- Inorganic materials
- New methods and calibration
- Biothermodynamics
- Environment and cultural heritage
- Pharmaceuticals
Brief hystory of AICAT
The Italian Association of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis (AICAT) was established in 1979 as a fully independent cultural and scientific body. This choice turned out to be appropriate as testified by the quick growth of the number of AICAT associates (currently ca 150) as well as by activities (meetings, schools, seminars). Interactions with ICTAC and various National Groups became undoubtedly easier.
In the late eighties AICAT started collaborating more closely with the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), that established a new Interdivisional Group (Gruppo Interdivisionale di Calorimetria e Analisi Termica (GICAT)). GICAT caught the attention of a few associates of various SCI Divisions and soon grew up (ca 70 associates). Quite a few AICAT associates belong also to GICAT, though AICAT still maintains its independence from SCI.
Such a “double-sided” condition, that was considered temporary at that time, turned out to be very efficient as proved by more than 30 years of excellent collaboration between and happy co-existence of the two bodies working in the field of C&TA.
AICAT Board
The elections of the President and the Components of the AICAT Board for the next three years (2023-2025) were held during the last ESTAC 13 congress, in Palermo in September 2022.
