A short history of AICAT (& GICAT)

The Associazione Italiana di Calorimetria e Analisi Termica (AICAT) was established in 1979 as a fully independent cultural and scientific body. This choice turned out to be appropriate as testified by the quick growth of  the number of  members AICAT (currently ca 150) as well as by activities (meetings, schools, seminars). Interactions with ICTA and various National Groups became undoubtedly easier.

In the late eighties AICAT started collaborating more closely with the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), that established a new Interdivisional Group (Gruppo Interdivisionale di Calorimetria e Analisi Termica (GICAT)). GICAT caught the attention of a few members of various SCI Divisions and soon grew up (ca 70 members). Quite a few AICAT members belong also to GICAT, though AICAT still maintains its independence from SCI.

Such a  “double-sided” condition, that was considered temporary at that time, turned out to be very efficient as proved by 20 years of excellent collaboration between and happy co-existence of the two bodies working in the field of C&TA.
